Today was Lion President Paula Klein's birthday. After Lion Lyle Swor led a rousing version of "Happy Birthday", the following took place:

Lion President Paula made an announcement regarding next week's Lion's Speech Contest. A signup sheet was circulated for judges. The contest will be held the morning of Monday March 22, with the finalists presenting their topics at our noon meeting.

Paula also asked if any Lions Club member was in immediate danger from the flooding taking place this week. If so, she asked that they let the Club know so that we can assist them or there neughborhood with sandbagging efforts.

Lion Mel Olson is chairman of this year's Lions Leadership Conference in Valley City on April 10. Several of our members will be making presentations at the conference. Officers of all the District's clubs are encouraged to attend.

Community Service Projects:

Community Service: Lion Larry Zich recognized the Lions who volunteered at last weekend's St. Patrick Day Parade. the parade was well attended and a social at the Vintner's Cellar followed. The April project typically involves litter pickup along south University Drive, however due to the flood we may need to postpone this event. The May project will be operating the water/aid station at the Fargo Marathon. Lion Larry is still confirming the details.

Sandbagging for Fargo: Lion Mark Western announced that the Lions would again gather Thursday, March 18 at 6:00 pm at the Coliseum to fill sand bags.

Presentation:

District 5NE Governor Wayne Westland joined us for today's meeting. Along with inducting our new member, he reported on the condition of Lions clubs in eastern North Dakota. Last year we were one of few Districts to experience an increase in membership, however we are down this year. He encouraged all Officers and especially the Secretaries to attend the 5NE Lions Leadership Conference in Valley City on April 10. Finally, he reminded us that "alone we cannot bend history but the combined effect of our actions will write the story of our generation."
